I'm curious as to what advanced options are commonly used by the community. Make a list and add it to the thread!
Hooks and Tales: Almost always Pumping Cliches: Almost always Double-Pumps: Now and then, usually for high magic or high psi games Funky Dice: Never (yet)

No one has ever wanted to use pumping cloches in my games. Are the drawbacks bad?

I almost always use hook and tales. I have ha d few instances where players used pumping. As a GM I have used funky dice for a monster here and there, but nothing extensive, I will say when you pull out those d8 or d10 at the Risus table eyes get big very quickly and players realize the crap is about to hit the fan.

I have used Boxcars and a variant of Questing Dice.

Hooks: Always Pumping Cliches: Always Double-Pumps: Almost always available Funky Dice: 50/50 Tales: Always until recently. Now I realize that people do tales anyway and I'm too stingy to hand out an extra die. Lucky Shots: Yes! Boxcars: Yes! Deadly Combat: Alas, not yet. Always wanted to try it.

Tales: Always until recently. Now I realize that people do tales anyway and I'm too stingy to hand out an extra die. I'm starting to lean towards the No Dice For Tales idea myself. Deadly Combat: Alas, not yet. Always wanted to try it. I'll be using Deadly Combat in the sci-fi space-faring campaign I'm working on at the moment. Hopefully will end up working out, we'll see.

I too am working on a sci-fi campaign (weird, huh) and I have mishmashed some ideas on combat, the spiral of death, and making it work a tad better for me. I liberally stole ideas from Old School Hack to make Risus just a tab grittier. When I get it cleaned up and after a little more playtesting this Thursday I will post something about it.

Sidekicks: Almost always an option for characters
