I've seen Risus played at a few conventions, and have a buddy (the writer of Eternity!, Ken MacLennan) who runs a usual Risus game at the local Con.
What I have noticed is that every Risus game is packed with plenty more wanting to get in...so there is a lot of love...but where is the online presence that overwhelms?
Anyone else have Risus Convention experience?

I've run Risus a couple of times in convention settings at RIT in upstate New York. I was semi-scheduled to run it in place of Labryinth Lord (which my friend was going to run but he pulled out at the last minute) at the annual RPG / wargame / card game / board game convention, but nobody wanted to play LL so I just played Doom instead. Later I did manage to get an impromptu game going, I ran the pizza delivery adventure in the Risus Companion for an hour or two. Someone else ran their weird Risus spin-off, reportedly. This made an audience for me, which I roped some of my friends into.
My online RPG group had a "convention" (technically a marathon one-shot series) a while ago, I ran Risus and Old School Hack and they were both decently received. We had a bit of a discussion over whether or not cliches should be one word or not (I'm with S. John Ross on the padding out of cliches to ridiculous lengths) and whether or not unusual cliches actually count as cliches (I just said "call it whatever you want if you think 'cliche' is a bad term). I ran the pizza delivery adventure again, with some of my twists on it.
One of my friends ran a game of Risus at a series of one-shots, after we decided figuring out Gurps was more hassle than it was worth. I explained the rules over burritos at the on-campus mexican place, then when we were done we whipped up some survivors of a zombie apacolypse, a la Left 4 Dead. This was back in march when I was starting my wrestling phase, so I was Alberto Del Rio, #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship before the holder turned into a zombie. I put a witch in the cross-arm breaker, which I thought was awesome. My friend had a lot of fun playing with bonus-dice gear and random combat, so that was cool too.

I've actually only run Risus twice: the first time was a session I ran for my friends, very much in the vein of Thundarr the Barbarian (i.e. post-apocalyptic swords and sorcery) but with more low-brow humor, and the other a session of pretty bog-standard comical fantasy I ran at a con. Of those two, the con session was definitely the inferior, owing largely to some lack of preparation on my part. The fact that the players were complete strangers to me may have also had an effect, which is usually the case with comedy games: humor being so subjective, another person's laugh riot will easily be another person's tired plod through clichéd territory.
Were I to run Risus again at a convention, I would make sure to go for less of a zany style. I think finding the right balance between humor and seriousness is important, because all of those funny moments are all the more funny when contrasted with a more serious backdrop.
