I am really enjoying reading the Emperor's Edge series, but I also want to play around in it, so I was considering writing up an 8-page setting based on the series.

Mystery, Steam Lorries, Automatons, Empires in Peril, Mental Sciences aka Magic and more await.
Any thoughts?

I've never read the series, but in my opinion, the world could ALWAYS use more Risus in whatever flavor there is to be had, and if you want to do it in 8 pages...well, I couldn't be happier.
I heartily encourage you to pursue this, and if I (or anyone else, I'm sure) can render any assistance to you, please don't hesitate to ask!

Brent, I reviewed the book here: http://snikle.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/review-the-emperors-edge/
Excellent book, not had a chance to read the sequel, but I hear it is very good as well. Matt, were there Automatons in the first book? I do not recall this being suggested.

I love Steampunk - I keep meaning to do a Girl Genius write up for Risus. Looking forward to another 8-page setting to read!

I haven't made a supplement for Risus before, so it may take a bit of time and trial/error to get it right.

BTW, I am halfway through the second book and it does not disappoint.

Ah you are right, I had forgotten about those. Though they ran on tracks and didn't seem intelligent to any degree. I got the impression they were simply machines that someone turned on and they ran about the little maze slicing and dicing until someone turned them off. I could be wrong, but I got the impression they were not any sort of automated thing. Either way, a slight twist here and there would make it possible in the world given the magic and technology present.

@msjackson: Yeah, regardless of interpretation, it is feasible that there are machines that operate with at various levels given the magical and technological level present.

Writing settings and adventures can involve depressing failures when an idea you love just doesn't work. It's best to have fun and move on.

I am slowly going through it, but I am beginning to wonder if I will have 8 pages worth. To a degree, working from an established world is harder than fabricating whole cloth.

What I have at this point is more of a working outline.
If you are interested, my draft is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AE9T....o/edit?hl=en_US.
I am trying to keep the setting write-up largely spoiler free so that reading this setting write-up doesn't spoil the novels.

It looks good so far, and if you make it a go of adding a map and a character sheet(s), then you will fill out to 8 pages nicely. I hope to see more of this; keep going!

Matt, have you read the second book? I am currently reading it (not far in yet) but it expands upon some stuff. Looks the sewer/water/pumping stations beneath the city are getting some love. Sounds like the perfect place for gaming.
